MEET OUR AMAZING RETREAT COORDINATOR AND FOUNDER OF SEA2FREE

Tara HACKETT

I'm a wife, mother of two, and very much a LIFE & SURF ENTHUSIAST! After leaving a Special Education teaching career of almost fifteen years, I'm thrilled to have figured out a way to connect my passion for surfing with my strong desire to teach. Sea2Free allows me to coach, guide, and cheer on my surfers while helping them find fun, freedom, confidence, and self-awareness in the ocean.

You can take the surfer out of the surf, but you can not take surf out of a surfer.

Giving Thanks

I wouldn't be the mother, wife, surf lover, or founder of Sea2Free without the endless love, support, and encouragement from my husband Thomas. Several years ago, Thomas helped me recognize my need for personal growth, physical challenge, and some "me time". With his help, I left two small children at home and headed to Nicaragua for a week-long surf program. I returned inspired and alive! I had fallen in love with surfing, the sense of freedom it provides, and the ocean's healing elements. Sea2Free allows me to share my love, bringing surfers to the ocean for their own healing experiences and surf journey.

Surfing: It’s a Family Affiar

I embrace any chance I have to spend time in the water! I'm blessed to have a family that also desires their own ocean moments. You'll often find us on the Oregon Coast heading to the beach with our wetsuits and all possible combination of boards in hand. As a household, we also LOVE opportunities to surf in warm water. This has taken us to Australia, Mexico, Hawaii, California, and Costa Rica. On these trips, we work to improve our surf skills and tap into our connection with the ocean. Being away from our daily routines and life at home allows us to reconnect and come together as a family. This connection also drives my desire to bring Sea2Free to others seeking some time in the waves.

From Wetsuit to Swim Suit

Many ask why I moved Sea2Free from private lessons on the Oregon coast to week-long retreats in Costa Rica? Well, where to begin... No wetsuits, the people, the beautiful surf breaks, beaches everywhere, my incredible coaches, delicious food, and mostly the opportunity to be with my ladies for an entire week! It’s unexplainable, the joy I get guiding women in and out of the water. It truly feeds my soul. The connection and experiences had during one of our Sea2Free retreats are the ones ladies will talk about for the rest of their lives.
